SUBJECT SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Grade 6 or above in GCSE ICT and Grade 5 or above in GCSE Maths

What does the course involve?

A Level Information Technology enables learners to become effective and astute users of IT. Learners will develop a broad range of IT skills, knowledge and understanding and apply their learning to efficiently solve problems in a range of situations. The course consists of:
  • Hardware and software – understand how these work and how they work together.
  • Networks – the central role networks play in the internet, mobile and wireless applications.
  • The internet – how it uses standardised communications protocols to allow computers worldwide to connect and share information in many different forms.
  • New technologies - As the information industry changes so rapidly, it is important to keep track of new and emerging technologies and consider how they might affect everyday life.

WHAT ARE THE TEACHING AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES?

Learners will develop a broad range of IT skills, knowledge and understanding and they will apply their learning to efficiently solve problems in a range of situations. They will study the structure and use of IT systems for a variety of contexts, learn about practical IT solutions for business and creative digital technology and learn about new and emerging technologies and their impact on society.
